A house needs to breathe. Wall cavities, roof spaces, subfloors, all of it. Moisture enters a home every single day through cooking, washing, drying clothes, simply living in it. Tasmania piles its own load on top. Our climate is cold and wet for much of the year, so the air inside your home is almost always carrying more moisture than the air outside it. South facing walls are the ones that pay for that. They get next to no winter sun, they stay cold, so moisture finds them first. It is where mould turns up before anywhere else in a house. Whether any of that moisture can escape comes down to how the home was actually built.
